Born in 1977, Radu Jude graduated from the Media University’s Department of Film Direction in 2003. He worked as assistant director for feature films such as Amen (2002), directed by Costa Gavras, and The Death of Mr. Lăzărescu / Moartea domnului Lăzărescu (2005), directed by Cristi Puiu. Jude’s film, The Tube with a Hat / Lampa cu căciulă (2006), has been the most awarded Romanian short film so far, and won the grand prizes at Sundance, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Grimstad, Hamburg, Bilbao, Huesca, Trieste, Montpellier, Cottbus, Aspen, Indielisboa, Brussels, Mediawave, Cracow, Almeria, Valencia, Uppsala. Alexandra (2007) was selected for over 30 festivals, including Clermont-Ferrand, San Francisco, Cottbus and Oberhausen, where it was awarded the 1st Prize. His medium-length and feature films are The Happiest Girl in the World / Cea mai fericită fată din lume (2009), A Film for Friends / Film pentru prieteni (2011) and Everybody in Our Family / Toată lumea din familia noastră (2012). Radu Jude also directed over 100 commercials.
